Asian Library
The Asian Library was a building envelope study and replacement of existing roof. This library is a unique building that was originally the Sanyo pavilion built for the 1970 World Exposition in Osaka Japan, and reassembled on the UBC campus in 1975 for their Asian Library. The existing roof of the building had served its purpose and was now badly leaking. Read Jones Christoffersen Ltd. undertook the project for UBC of providing a building envelope study and then proceeded to create working drawings for a roof replacement and skylight lantern refurbishment. The sloped roof had custom metal tiles, difficult site access (there is a moat around this building), as well as a tenant on site during construction which made a fairly simple re-roofing project interesting and challenging. Working for Read Jones Christoffersen Ltd., my role in this project was project manager, detailer, and drafter.
